The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Canada (JRDF) is throwing a party to raise money for diabetes research–a virtual one.

Despite the fact the pandemic associated with COVID-19 has rendered traditional parties impossible, the JDRF is putting together a virtual party to raise funds for type 1 diabetes.

Dubbed the JDRF House ParT1D for a Cure, the event, which is being presented by Omnipod, is scheduled for June 14, and will be the biggest virtual party in Canada.

It will feature appearances from special guests, including NHL player Max Domi, and Canadian country superstar George Canyon; it will also include live streaming entertainment, inspirational stories, updates from research experts, and more.

“The JDRF House ParT1D for a Cure is more than a virtual house party,” Dave Prowten, president and CEO of JDRF Canada, said in a news release.

“It’s a movement that empowers families touched by type 1 diabetes to rally together, now more than ever. We need to make sure that the research doesn’t stop for the type 1 diabetes community, and funds raised through this event will help us accelerate JDRF and critical research breakthroughs that will lead to better treatments and cures,” he continued.

Additionally, participants are encouraged to complete their own fund-raising challenges at home in as creative a manner as they can be–such as travelling 100km on a stationary bike or a bead-a-thon.

The organization is aiming to raise $2.5 million towards research that will go towards turning type one diabetes into type none.

Those interested in getting involved can register for the event via the JDRF House ParT1D for a Cure’s website.
