Another resident at a long-term care home in Peel has passed away due to COVID-19.

In a statement issued today by Regional Chair Nando Iannicca, it was confirmed that a resident passed away due to COVID-19 complications at Peel Manor Long Term Care Centre, located at 525 Main Street North in Brampton.
“I’d like to express my sincere condolences to those who knew the individual, including friends, family and staff at the centre. The loss of a loved one is never easy to endure, and my heart is with you in your time of sorrow,” said Iannicca.
“Protecting our most vulnerable, including those who live in our long-term care homes, is our foremost responsibility. This incredibly sad situation has happened despite the united efforts of many. For this, we feel the most painful remorse.”

This is the ninth long-term care resident in Peel to pass away due to COVID-19.
As of Saturday, April 18, Peel Region reports 36 deaths related to the virus.
Iannicca urges residents to continue physically distancing but still connect with each other by making a call, sending a text or an email, and supporting one another through this time.
“Staff working in our long-term care homes on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 are to be commended for the care they continue to provide. The Region of Peel, along with our municipal, provincial and federal partners, continue to work tirelessly to support those staff and respond to this pandemic,” said Iannicca.
“Together, with you, we will move forward toward a future without this disease.”
