Residents Can Now Vote on Brampton’s Best Architecture

The Brampton Urban Design Awards (BUDA) celebrate excellence in design, architecture and landscape architecture, and Bramptonians are can now vote online on the most well-designed architecture in Brampton.
There are 14 projects nominated with the BUDA People’s Choice Awards that were developed or planned between 2015 and 2016 and selected by a professional jury.
To name a few, the Brampton Southwest Quadrant Renewal at 41 George Street is among the nominees, also known as the new administrative and civic building adjacent to City Hall.

The new Canon Canada Headquarters building is another notable nominee at 8000 Mississauga Road, a massive four-storey and 176,000 square foot office set upon a landscaped podium of black Quebec-sourced granite.
The McCulure Farmhouse, which was restored in 2015 at 44 Lampman Crescent, also made the list, with a steep front gable, a decorative portico at the entrance, and decorative street facing elevations.
Landscaping projects are part of the candidates, like the Block 51-1 Natural Heritage System in Mount Pleasant, which aims to create a “green coast” with grassland and woodland channels, wetland areas, and stormwater management ponds.
The planned Springdale Library at 10705 Bramalea Road, featured in our cover photo, has made the list with an organic, undulating perimeter condition of building and courtyard, an artificial topography within the flat landscape of the park, the floor slab of the interior, and the ceiling and roof plane.
The project with the most votes will receive a People’s Choice Award trophy.
