The investigation in relation to an event that occurred last month between Peel Regional Police (PRP) and an 18-year-old male has been terminated by the Interim Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino.

On the evening of September 19, 2019, the 18-year-old was wanted by Peel Police, due to suspicions that he had been involved in an earlier incident involving a gunpoint robbery of another individual.

Peel Police tracked his location, which led them to an apartment unit located in the area of Clark Boulevard and Bramalea Road.

When they arrived at the destination and knocked on the door intending to make an arrest, the man attempted to escape through the window in the bedroom of the apartment but fell to the ground upon doing so.

After his fall, officers located him and took the man into custody before having him transported to the hospital with a fractured leg.

“It is apparent based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries that there are no grounds giving rise to potential criminal liability on the part of any police officer or officers in relation to the man’s injury,” said Interim Director Martino.

“Without seeing any police officer inside the residence but panicked by their presence outside the door, the man left the unit of his own volition and has only himself to blame for the fall that broke his leg. Consequently, the investigation is hereby discontinued, and the file closed.”
