Something Big is Happening at Tim Hortons

So long, Oakville.

And hello, downtown Toronto.

Tim Hortons is moving its headquarters, the company announced Tuesday (April 17).

The new  65,000 sq. ft. headquarters, encompassing its head office and global restaurant support centre will be located in the Exchange Tower at King St. W. and York St. in the financial district.

“This major metropolitan environment will provide a platform for us to further expand our leadership in Canada by bringing us closer to our business partners and the people on the front lines of tomorrow’s industry trends,” said Tim Hortons president Alex Macedo.

“This change is another part of our journey to build a stronger Tim Hortons and will enable us to harness the power of technology and innovation to better serve our guests and restaurant owners for years to come.”

Timmies HQ is currently located at 226 Wyecroft Rd. with about 400 employees.

The town of Oakville “has been incredibly supportive of us as we’ve grown over the last 50+ years and we will always be grateful,” reads a news release.

“But, as we look at our bold plans for the future of Tim Hortons, downtown Toronto comes up as an ideal setting for us as we continue to evolve to meet the needs of our guests. It is our hope that all our current and future employees embrace this positive change and join us in this next exciting chapter.”

The company says it’s focusing on innovation labs, idea sharing and creativity in its new space.

Mayor Rob Burton describes Tim Hortons as a valued part of Oakville’s business community.

“While we’re sad to see the company leave, we respect the difficult decision it made to consolidate its head office in downtown Toronto,” said Burton.

“We’re pleased to see Tim Hortons remain in the Greater Toronto Area. The new location will be very commutable for head office staff that live in Oakville.”

The coffee chain was founded in 1964 and now has roughly 4,700 locations worldwide.
