On Friday, July 7, 2017, Margareta Dovgal posted to Facebook asking the public to keep an eye out for an abandoned or suspiciously parked Budget truck in Scarborough or Toronto.

According to police, the truck turned up at a truck repair shop in Brampton on Monday, July 10.

Dovgal said that early on Canada day, the truck, which contained hers and two other families’ belongings, was stolen from a moving and storage warehouse in Scarborough by a group of three thieves.

“It’s not just all of my possessions – that truck carries everything I have left of my parents, who are both gone, including priceless family photos, gifts from my deceased grandmother, and even my mother’s ashes,” Dovgal said in her post.

Her mother’s ashes were found intact, police said.

Peel Regional Police said that one suspect has been arrested and charged, and had a hearing on the morning of Tuesday, July 11.

Toronto Police are continuing the investigation.
