Substantial Amount of New Jobs Could be Coming to Brampton

A massive investment is about to create a lot of jobs across Canada, and some of them could be coming to Brampton.
The federal government recently announced that it’s investing a whopping $950 million in the Innovation Superclusters Initiative which includes the Ocean Supercluster (based in Atlantic Canada), the SCALE.AI Supercluster (based in Quebec), the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster (based in Ontario), the Protein Industries Supercluster (based in the Prairies), and the Digital Technology Supercluster (based in British Columbia).
Some Brampton and Mississauga companies are part of Ontario’s supercluster that will be seeing an influx of jobs.

According to the federal government, “Superclusters are dense areas of business activity where many of the middle-class jobs of today and tomorrow are created. They attract large and small companies that collaborate with universities, colleges and not-for-profit organizations to turn ideas into solutions that can be brought to market.”
These Superclusters represent more than 450 businesses, 60 post-secondary institutions and 180 other participants in sectors covering 78 percent of Canada’s economy.
Basically, 16,000 new middle-class jobs are being created in high-growth industries across Canada, where the Canadian government expects an “innovation boom,” according to a recent statement.
Here in Ontario, we’re part of the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster, led by Next Generation Manufacturing (NGM) Canada.
That means middle-class jobs are coming to manufacturing companies across the province. This could be a good sign – it’s no secret that the middle class is disappearing in the GTA, and more jobs could mean better maintaining middle-class families and jobs across the province.
“NGM Canada will support collaborative, industry-led projects, as well as support the creation of new tools, testbeds and infrastructure to help create the next generation of manufacturing firms,” said Linda Hasenfratz, CEO of Linamar and Chair of NGM Canada.
How does NGM Canada plan to do that?
“Using a hub and spoke model, our strategy aims to ensure manufacturers and technology firms have access to all of the resources they need to be successful,” said Jason Myers, CEO of NGM Canada.
“Whether firms need help with technical assessments, pilot and testing facilities, sales and marketing strategies, talent acquisition, skills development, or go-to-market advice, the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster ecosystem will provide a network of support and services to accelerate technology adoption in manufacturing firms and generate new customers and scale-up opportunities for technology firms.”
The Superclusters are geared towards transforming economies and and developing areas of innovation that create jobs, inspired by Silicon Valley.
In Ontario, the manufacturing jobs will be concentrated in our own “innovation corridor.”
“The Ottawa-Toronto-Kitchener/Waterloo innovation corridor employs more than 200,000 tech workers and is the home of some of world’s best academic and research centres,” said Reza Moridi, Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, and Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth in a joint statement. “Together, we have developed the critical mass and technology platforms to be a global leader in advanced manufacturing.”
The new jobs are projected to add $16.5 billion to Canada’s economy over 10 years.
