Test drive an electric vehicle at Celebration Square in Mississauga

Mississauga residents who want to test drive an electric vehicle can do so for the next three weeks at Celebration Square in the city’s downtown core.
The City of Mississauga is hosting an Electric Vehicle Discovery Pop-up event four days a week until Nov. 6. It’s being run in partnership with Plug ‘n Drive, a non-profit organization committed to accelerating electric vehicle adoption in order to maximize the environmental and economic benefits.
For the next several weeks, people “will have the opportunity to meet Plug’n Drive’s ambassadors, ask questions and, most excitingly, test drive one of the latest electric vehicle models,” City officials say. “Sign up for a 45-minute appointment, where you’ll get the chance take an electric vehicle for a spin and learn more about owning one.”
Officials add that with soaring gas prices in recent months, people might want to take a more serious look at electric cars.
“Electric vehicles not only save you gas money and maintenance, but they also reduce your vehicle emissions by as much as 90 per cent,” City officials note, adding Mississauga is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of that, officials say, the City is also providing educational opportunities for people to learn more about what actions they can take and other things such as Mississauga’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The test-drive and information sessions run Thursdays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., until Nov. 6. Last appointment is 3 p.m. each day.
Those interested in booking a session must register in advance, and they must be at least 21 years of age.
In March of this year, the City announced it was adding a dozen new electric vehicle charging stations to those already available across Mississauga in efforts to move people from gas-guzzling cars into the more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
The City, which through its Climate Change Action Plan seeks to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades with an eventual goal of zero emissions, introduced at the time:
- eight new charging ports at the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion campus in the City Centre
- four new charging ports at a municipal parking lot in Streetsville (7 Water St., near Church and Main Sts.)
The new stations were added to the more than 400 charging ports already available across the city.
