This Bestselling Author is Coming to Brampton

As part of the next installment of the “Writers at The Rose” series, New York Times #1 bestselling author Angie Thomas will have a sit down conversation with CBC Arts Reporter Amanda Parris.This event takes place at the Rose Theatre in downtown Brampton on Monday, February 25 at 7 pm.

Thomas, a Mississippi native, is the author of The Hate U Give, a story about a 16-year-old black girl, Starr Carter, who is drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of a childhood friend. The book was later turned into a movie which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall.

She will discuss her new novel, On the Come Up, a story of fighting for your dreams, and about how, especially for young black people, freedom of speech isn’t always free. Thomas will be available for a book signing after the event.

Writers at The Rose is a partnership with the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) and The Rose Brampton. The series highlights diverse voices, showcasing important writers and stories in conversation with high-profile moderators and interviewers.
