This Bestselling Author is Coming to Brampton

If you're a fan of contemporary literature, especially hearing from an author in person, then this upcoming event may be for you.

As part of the next installment of the "Writers at The Rose" series, New York Times #1 bestselling author Angie Thomas will have a sit down conversation with CBC Arts Reporter Amanda Parris. This event takes place at the Rose Theatre in downtown Brampton on Monday, February 25 at 7 pm.

Thomas, a Mississippi native, is the author of The Hate U Give, a story about a 16-year-old black girl, Starr Carter, who is drawn to activism after she witnesses the police shooting of a childhood friend. The book was later turned into a movie which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall.

She will discuss her new novel, On the Come Up, a story of fighting for your dreams, and about how, especially for young black people, freedom of speech isn't always free. Thomas will be available for a book signing after the event.

Writers at The Rose is a partnership with the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) and The Rose Brampton. The series highlights diverse voices, showcasing important writers and stories in conversation with high-profile moderators and interviewers.
