A long-standing Dutch grocery store is closing soon in Brampton.

Simon’s Smokehouse, which specializes in Dutch groceries, European deli products and the fine art of the butcher shop, located at 2 Fisherman Dr., will be closing next month.

The store was founded in Toronto in 1953 by Simon De Groot upon noticing the lack of stores that offered fine Dutch and European grocery products.

In the 80′s, Simon’s Smokehouse moved to Brampton and have been there ever since.

The new owner of Simon’s Smokehouse, Maria Melo has shared De Groot’s passion and continued the store’s legacy in the 21st century.

The store is said to be closing before the end of February.
