Top 5 Breakfast in Brampton

Published November 7, 2016 at 3:39 am

When it comes to breakfast, Brampton has a lot to offer. It has a couple of absolutely iconic greasy spoons that serve heaping plates of crispy bacon, perfect over-easy eggs, fluffy pancakes and rich French toast. It also has a casual, homegrown gem that’s perfect for a quite bite and some quaint family restos that make incredible poached eggs.

Basically, if you’re hungry in the morning, Brampton is a good city to wake up in.

Here are the top 5 breakfast spots in Brampton.

5) Joey’s Deli

Okay, we need to talk about Joey’s Deli. This Queen St W resto in downtown Brampton is ideal for a quick and easy breakfast or brunch when you’ve got a bad hankering for eggs or pancakes – all day! They’re open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and I have one word that describes this place perfectly: options. During the morning, you can grab some cereal, or choose from an all day breakfast option til close, like a breakfast bowl, pancakes, an egg sautee, a breakfast sandwich, a big breakfast with eggs, homefries, toast, and pancakes, eggs benny, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, or even french toast – need I go on? Their food is delicious and their service is on point, too. And check out the icing sugar on their pancakes…together, they’re a winning combo.

4) AJ’s Family Restaurant

Located in an industrial plaza on Regan Road, this place is easy to miss but more than worth a more careful look. AJ’s is a typical casual family resto, boasting understated decor and a menu full of comforting, traditional classic dishes. In terms of breakfast, this place offers everything from bacon and eggs to pancakes to an exceedingly rich and creamy smoked salmon eggs benedict ($10.75). If you’re in the mood for meat, AJ’s offers a Hungry Man breakfast with three eggs, two strips of bacon, one piece of ham and two sausages for $10.50. The offerings are generous, the portions are large and the service is friendly and attentive. All in all, it’s a sweet breakfast spot that offers a lot of options at reasonable prices.

3) Stacy Lee’s Family Restaurant

This restaurant is legendary in Brampton and its popularity is apparent the moment you walk through the door. Dramatically understated on the outside and somewhat spartan on the in, Stacy Lee’s thrives by serving up hearty breakfast fare and shredded hash browns (although you have to ask for them specifically). Located on McLaughlin Road near Queen, this place is perfect for straight up bacon and eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast, Benedicts and a cool concoction comprised of a moist croissant, egg and cheese. The service is attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is great. You’ll leave full and happy–just remember to try those amazing shredded hash browns. You’ll never want to eat regular home fries again.

2) John’s Family Restaurant

If you want to hit this Fisherman’s Drive hotspot on a Saturday or Sunday, be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. John’s Family Restaurant, a tasty establishment known for serving breakfast, brunch and Greek and Italian fare, is a casual restaurant run by friendly servers that’s augmented by a filling and delicious menu. While a lot of more casual restaurants tend to serve decidedly ordinary Benedicts, John’s offers a delicious smoked salmon Benny that’s heavy on both fish and flavour. The hollandaise is also subtle, memorable and delicious. As far as staples go, the eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes are perfectly prepared and wonderfully filling. The breakfast potatoes are also exceptional, as they’re comprised of the real deal–no store-bought cubes here!

1) Flips

Flips is an iconic breakfast joint that gets packed to the rafters on weekends and for good reason–it’s straight up delicious. Located on Main Street, this greasy spoon serves up all the classics (eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelettes, Benny’s, etc) and offers an enticing selection of incredibly generous combo platters that will kill your hangover and satisfy your appetite for days. While it’s easy enough to find greasy spoons that boast a solid breakfast game, it’s rare to find a place with consistently flavourful offerings that are legitimately tasty. It’s no wonder this place attracts everyone from families to couples to college/university students who partied hard the night before. It’s a true gem.
