So you’re looking for an epic date night restaurant that’s high on ambiance, serves quality meals, and is also nice to your wallet. You’ve come to the right place!

Brampton is full of quality date night restaurants, from the always classic La Capannina to the classy and hidden Antica Osteria. But a lot of date night restaurants in Brampton can be pricey. For those of you who want to impress your date with a chemistry-filled night that’s also budget-friendly, here are the top five date night restaurants for when you’re on a budget in Brampton.

5) Canelli’s

If you want to take your date to an Italian restaurant but you don’t want to pay $25+ for a plate of pasta, Canelli’s is a great option. Located near Queen and Kennedy, Canelli’s is a casual Italian eatery with a unique vibe. The dining space is large with brick and wood accents, there’s an assortment of booth and table seating, there’s a glass case where you can see some of the delicious desserts you might enjoy after dinner. We highly recommend the pasta and the calamari fritti. Pictured below is the penne con pollo which rings in at $17 a plate, across from the spaghetti arrabiata which is just $14. And the calamari fritti is a reasonable $12, served with a house chipotle mayo and seafood sauce – yum! Like any good Italian restaurant Canelli’s also has a solid list of vino if you want to kick your date up a notch, complete with about 20 different kinds of wine to choose from. You can even impress your date with some awesome chocolate raspberry tartufo at dessert for $4.

4) 168 Sushi

How about some All You Can Eat (AYCE) sushi for date night? 168 is a great option for a couple craving sushi and a different experience. At 168, you have the option of sitting at a table or kicking off your shoes and sitting on the floor in one of the back rooms for a more classic and fun scarfing down sushi experience. You can learn more about one another’s ordering preferences, order as much food as you can eat, and maybe your chopsticks will meet over the California rolls – how cute. This place is a little hidden at Kennedy and Glidden, so perhaps it’ll be an adventure to find it, too. Don’t be fooled by the sparse exterior, either. Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, AYCE or a la carte, try 168 for a date night and you won’t be disappointed. For the amount of food you’re getting – apps, dinner, and dessert – the price is more than reasonable.

Price for AYCE dinner on a weekend: $25.95

3) Carve on Lot 5

Carve on Lot 5 is a great choice for anyone who wants to add a historic charm and perhaps enjoy dinner on a rooftop patio during the summer months with their date. And it’s incredibly budget-friendly. Sides start at $4, the desserts are all $5, and the most expensive thing on the menu is the steak frites at $32. Located on Main Street North in downtown Brampton, this chic restaurant is actually inside an old heritage building with rich woods, granite countertop bars, and restored original heritage ceilings, windows, and stairs, according to Carve’s website. So you’re definitely getting an old-timey yet modern ambiance here, with fresh and flavourful food to boot. Carve has made several of our top five lists too, including fries, mac and cheese, burgers, and more, for good reason! Carve’s chicken dinner is featured in our cover photo.

2) Firangi

This Indian street food-style restaurant offers a wide variety of modern takes on Indian cuisine at reasonable prices from its spot near Queen and Airport. Firangi is actually operated by Sanjeev Sethi, the owner and executive chef of The Host brand. While The Host is known for giving traditional Indian fare the fine dining treatment, Firangi serves something a little different while still sticking to its upscale vibe. The cozy resto has a casual yet classy atmosphere, with unique and fun furnishings and earthy tones like reds, greens, and browns throughout. The service is attentive and quick, and the entire menu is indulgent, unique, and delicious. The Butter Chicken Fries can’t be beat and we’ll rave about them forever – aromatic, with tender chicken, creamy sauce with a kick of spice, and crispy fries. Other awesome menu items to try are their Chicken 65, classic saag paneer, and the chef’s choice Ambala Wala Chicken Curry. This could be your chance at a budget-friendly date where your date thinks you’re paying much more than you really are. At reasonable prices, you can get a really tasty meal here for about $25 per person and you’ll both be full…and there may still be leftovers

Price for mains start at: around $10 for something substantial (ie. those beautiful butter chicken fries)

1) J. Red & Co

J. Red is definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu, which boasts flavourful and unique dishes at very reasonable prices. Located on Vodden and Main this is one of Brampton’s best restaurant gems that’s also easy on your wallet. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TV shows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. What’s better than going out on a date and experimenting with a new style of food you have never tried before? You can try things like smoked cheddar mac and cheese, egg rolls and crispy fried cauliflower wings. Our favourite is the Bob and Doug burger. Even if you have nothing to talk about, you can still talk about the food! Remember that Friday nights are live music nights and Sundays are jazz nights, if you’re looking for a way to add something extra to your date.
