5. Brar's Sweets and Restaurant
If you're ready for a vegetarian feast, Brar's is the place to go. Offering both buffet and sit-down style dining, Brar's has a vast variety of Indian dishes and it's all completely vegetarian. Most of the dishes include paneer cheese as their star ingredient, but they also make great use of vegetables and potatoes as the dominant force in their cooking. Beyond solely Indian food, Brar's puts forth some great Hakka style food as well. They make a mean vegetarian Manchurian and paired up with their noodles you'll be more than impressed. Found at Dixie and Advance, this vegetarian spot will leave you positive thinking that vegetarians do it right.
Quick service, large portions, and possibly the best hot sauce on this list - Portas Do Mar took Martin’s BBQ’s place in a plaza on Main St., and while we miss Martin’s, Portas Do Mar is a pretty awesome spot itself. At this Portuguese bar and grill, you get a choice of white or dark meat, plus rice and potatoes, for a steeper price of $12 compared to other spots on this list, but the food is delicious. The hot sauce is tangy and has an incredible kick to it, so make sure you pour that stuff over everything, the potatoes have a thin outer layer that just melts when you pop them in our mouth, and the rice have a unique lemon flavour to them. As for the chicken, the skin is flavourful and and the meat is tender. The best part? Service here is very quick, especially for take-out. You could be in and out in well under 10 minutes.
3. J. Red & Co
Definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main is one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TVshows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Denis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. What’s better than going out on a date and experimenting with a new style of food you have never tried before? You can try things like smoked cheddar mac ‘n cheese, egg rolls and crispy fried cauliflower 'wings.' Our favourite is the Bob and Doug burger. This place is featured in our cover photo.
This Portuguese bakery in downtown Brampton near Main and Church does a lot of things right - they make a great pie, they have lots of bread and meat, and they make a mean soup! Nova Grill changes up their soup of the day daily, and for about $3, you can get a steaming bowl of their daily concoction, best enjoyed with a giant bun from their bakery, and a custard tart for dessert. Below is a vegetable soup from Nova, which was a smooth potato puree with chopped spinach and carrots, plus the right amount of flavours and spices to be considered, as they say, “yummy in my tummy.” Nova is open bright and early at 8 a.m. so you can get soup at almost any time of day, and you can get it for there or to-go. What’s more, the service is friendly and you’ll always feel at home in the resto’s cozy setting.
Now we get into the higher levels of smoked meat. You can smoke any type of meat, and when you do, something beautiful usually happens. The team at Food Fight Barbeque Bar understand this concept beautifully! Smoked chicken, smoked turkey, and the classics like pulled pork and beef brisket, help make this restaurant a smoked meat lover's delight! While their meat could probably hold its own in terms of taste, they add some extras to keep the flavour buds entertained. If you're an adventurous soul like me, or you just aren't sure which one to get, try their sliders to get a good taste of their options. The beef brisket here is succulent and tasty, I highly recommend it!
