If you’re looking to enjoy a romantic date or a sophisticated dinner, Antica is more than worth a try. This Mayfield Road restaurant pairs warmth and sophistication, wowing guests with a classic wine bar and comforting earthy tones. While a great deal of attention has been paid to the setting, the restaurant is better known for serving fine Italian fare. The resto's website calls attention to the fact that the establishment occupies "one of the most prestigious indoor spaces in Snelgrove" and the enriching ambiance is apparent as soon as you walk in the door. This restaurant is ideal for a special occasion and the menu doesn't disappoint, offering such classics as Gnocchi con Pera e Gorgonzola, Penne alla Vodka, lamb and more. If you want to be wowed, try the homemade gnocchi or any of the tender, succulent veal dishes available on the menu.
We were pretty pumped to hear that a brand new Portuguese restaurant had opened in Brampton. Portas Do Mar - or, "Doors to the Sea" - has settled into a location at Main and Vodden, where Martin's BBQ Chicken used to be. The location is now under new ownership. The restaurant boasts BBQ chicken, grilled meat, and seafood on their menu, with healthy sides of potatoes, veggies, and rice. Anyone craving flavourful grilled meat in hearty portions seems to be in for a treat, as the resto is easily accessible to visitors from its central location.
Vesuvio’s has been around for the past 54 years! This well-known spot has been a classic in Brampton since 1963. Residents will definitely want to check out how it’s changed since their location in downtown Brampton flooded in March 2016. Their most popular dishes are their manicotti, their gnocchi, and their wood-burning pizzas which start at about $16. They boast delectable pastas, gourmet pizzas, and delicious desserts. According to owner Maurizio Dacunto, “Everything is homemade, just like grandma makes." Vesuvio's is featured in our cover photo this week!
The Sul Irmaos Smokehouse is located in the heart of downtown Brampton and specializes in Portuguese southern fusion cuisine. The restaurant is known for its smoked meat, which is smoked (low and slow) and it was even featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. Must eat dishes include the beef eater (southern slow smoked brisket, deep fried okra and shrimp and collard greens, served with Creole mustard, house gravy and Caesar dressing) and the pulled pork and Beanasaurus (southern slow smoked pulled pork, homemade mama's chill, fresh cut creamy coleslaw and fried mac and cheese bites).
Sonny's is a relic and an absolute dive located on good old Kennedy Road. This fast-food joint specializes in burgers, with menu items such as cheeseburgers, double bacon cheeseburgers, steak on a kaiser, fish and chips, chicken fingers, fries and more. Sonny's is straight-up, traditional fast food as it should be, charming Brampton with its nostalgic vibe and feel-good food. They're open late (craving a burger at 3 or 4 a.m., anyone?), their food hits the spot, and they're just an old-school classic landmark in Brampton. Grab a milkshake and a spot on their picnic benches - if you say you're from Brampton, a late night meal at Sonny's is a must.
