5) Antica Osteria

If you’re looking to enjoy a romantic date or a sophisticated dinner, Antica is more than worth a try. This Mayfield Road restaurant pairs warmth and sophistication, wowing guests with a classic wine bar and comforting earthy tones. While a great deal of attention has been paid to the setting, the restaurant is better known for serving fine Italian fare. The resto's website calls attention to the fact that the establishment occupies "one of the most prestigious indoor spaces in Snelgrove" and the enriching ambiance is apparent as soon as you walk in the door. This restaurant is ideal for a special occasion and the menu doesn't disappoint, offering such classics as Gnocchi con Pera e Gorgonzola, Penne alla Vodka, lamb and more. If you want to be wowed, try the homemade gnocchi or any of the tender, succulent veal dishes available on the menu.

4) Portas Do Mar

Quick service, large portions, and possibly the best hot sauce on this list - Portas Do Mar took Martin’s BBQ’s place in a plaza on Main St., and while we miss Martin’s, Portas Do Mar is a pretty awesome spot itself. At this Portuguese bar and grill, you get a choice of white or dark meat, plus rice and potatoes, for a steeper price of $12 compared to other spots on this list, but the food is delicious. The hot sauce is tangy and has an incredible kick to it, so make sure you pour that stuff over everything, the potatoes have a thin outer layer that just melts when you pop them in our mouth, and the rice have a unique lemon flavour to them. As for the chicken, the skin is flavourful and and the meat is tender. The best part? Service here is very quick, especially for take-out. You could be in and out in well under 10 minutes.

3) Brars

Here’s a fun option for the fam - head to an Indian buffet! Brar’s is a veggie restaurant, but they have an abundance of delicious Indian comfort food that’ll satisfy the entire fam - and, the kids (and you!) will have fun choosing their meal from the buffet tables. Samosas, curry, and sweets galore await you and the fam at Brar’s, a flavour experience you won’t want to miss. Visiting Brar’s at Bovaird and the 410 will definitely shake up your typical family meal. Their buffet is easy to navigate and the staff is quite helpful, and the wide variety of options makes it easy for everyone to find something they like. Brar's sits at a reasonable price of about $25 for their buffet on a Saturday or a Sunday night. On weekdays that drops to $15 for lunch.

2) Singapore Gardens

We will warn you right off the bat, the location of Singapore Garden’s is slightly questionable because of the very questionable motel it’s attached to. Please don’t let that keep you from going inside, it’s most definitely worth it. We went in on a night when the weather was less than decent, so it was not all that busy and the quality of service was great. The staff was hospitable and helpful and we couldn’t help but notice the friendly conversation they were offering to all of the guests that came in, whether they were getting take out or eating in.They made you feel like you were at home and it was easy to forget the fact that we were eating at a restaurant located at the always “interesting” intersection of Queen and Kennedy. Aside from the service, what really sold us on Singapore Gardens was the food. Their vegetable fried rice and beef with vegetables had us smitten with the place. Singapore Gardens gets major points in flavor, friendly service and offering the right kind of at home vibes that don’t make you feel bad putting your pressing Netflix binge on hold.

1) Honest Restaurant

Honest Restaurant has locations across India and the U.S., and even a location in Thailand. Now, the popular all-vegetarian, street food-inspired resto from Ahmedabad is officially open right here in Brampton. It has taken over the old Louisiana Seafood and Steakhouse location at Hurontario and Steeles. The restaurant’s expansive menu includes starters, pizzas, burgers, and Indian classics like pulav (a spicy and mixed rice), biryani, and dosa. Some Chinese options are also on the menu, including manchurian veggies, American chopsuey, fried rice, and a few different kinds of noodles. Another highlight is the milkshakes! Honest’s menu includes 11 different kinds of milkshakes. Chocolate chip, lychee, cold coffee, and even pineapple are just some of the milkshakes you’ll find here. And there’s a huge selection of paneer (a kind of cheese). So, if you’re looking for some classic Indian eats, Honest is a new spot to try them. Honest is typically open in the evenings from 5 p.m. onwards, according to their Facebook page.
