If you travel to one of Brampton's most sophisticated and serene restaurants, you'll get to pair exquisite scenery with a classic dishes. Terrace on the Green, a spacious fine-dining establishment that doubles as a wedding and special occasion venue, offers great ambiance and a classic menu full of tried and true favourites, including a roasted Chilean sea bass with risotto and a very fresh slaw. Although the risotto is somewhat average, the Chilean sea bass is anything but. The dish boasts soft, tender white fish with a crispy, golden top that's perfectly seasoned. The fish is neither chewy nor dry and the lightly fried surface adds a delectable bit of crunch to an otherwise delicate item. The rest of the menu is full of fine dining classics, so it won’t disappoint anyone looking for a traditional dinner. Terrace is in our cover photo.
Flips is an iconic breakfast joint that gets packed to the rafters on weekends and for good reason--it’s straight up delicious. Located on Main Street, this greasy spoon serves up all the classics (eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelettes, Benny’s, etc) and offers an enticing selection of incredibly generous combo platters that will kill your hangover and satisfy your appetite for days. While it’s easy enough to find greasy spoons that boast a solid breakfast game, it’s rare to find a place with consistently flavourful offerings that are legitimately tasty. It’s no wonder this place attracts everyone from families to couples to college/university students who partied hard the night before. It’s a true gem.
If you want authentic Mexican Food in the city, look no further than La Catrina located on Queen Street West in downtown Brampton. The restaurant is family owned (it uses recipes from “La Abuela” - grandmother’s recipes) and brings true, authentic flavour that captures the essence of Mexico. Chef Eddie Bachur and his team provide a wide selection of authentic good eats from tacos to cerviche and burritos and house-made mole dishes. And if you’re staying for dessert (which we know you will) you will have to try the churros (Fried dough pastry dusted with sugar and cinnamon) or a favourite amongst the InBrampton team - the Pastel De Tres Leches (a vanilla sponge cake soaked in three milks filled with peach—not to be confused by the classic Big Pun song).
This joint wins the trophy for best traditional BBQ chicken. This family-owned and operated churrasquiera has a serious dinner rush where lineups to the door are the norm. And can you believe that I was in it out in 15 minutes? This place doesn’t fool around. Though white meat is a dollar more expensive, it is so worth it. A quarter chicken combo with white meat provided incredibly juicy chicken and an ideal texture on the outside with a nice saltiness to the skin that had the right amount of crispiness. Go here if you want your BBQ chicken done right and if you’re a piri piri sauce connoisseur.
When you think of street meat, you might think about going to town on a foot-long hot dog before a Jay's game or after a long night of clubbing. You might even think of satisfying a hearty craving after a hectic hour at a local Costco or Canadian Tire. Even if you have fond memories of curbside sausages, you probably never associated the scrumptious meal with freshness and variety. While owner Jonathan Boone and his team like to change up the menu based on the day's shopping, they do offer some staples that diners can expect to see on the menu daily, offering a core menu with pulled pork and pulled chicken, mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, ribs and more.
