5) La Capannina
La Capannina is a family-run gem that’s been operating since the 80s and has more than stood the test of time. The downtown Brampton resto, tucked away on George Street North, offers charming, vintage appeal and a classic menu full of such delicious Italian mainstays as spaghetti bolognese, homemade gnocchi, manicotti and veal parmigiana. It also boasts a few unique offerings, such as oysters rockefeller, mushroom caps stuffed with lobster, shrimps, scallops and hollandaise sauce and a rotating list of decadent specials (the mixed meat and cheese board was a sweet surprise and came with a tender brie and flavourful capicola). The service is informative and attentive and the homemade gnocchi is fall-apart tender, not to mention generously portioned. The manicotti is also incredibly fresh, allowing the diner to taste each ingredient. There’s a reason this resto has lasted as long as it has and that reason is fresh, memorable food served by friendly, helpful staff in an inviting atmosphere.
From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don't even need to leave your house. "We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood," says the resto. All of their meat and produce is sourced from Ontario, so you can be glad to know you're eating local. Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion set up shop in the downtown core early in March and is satisfying the bustling downtown crowd with a range of comforting Caribbean classics, including jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail, stew fish, chicken soup and more. Centrally located on Main Street, the resto is easily accessible for workers looking to grab a quick lunch or visitors hoping to enjoy a dinner that’s on the hotter side. As for the resto’s signature dish, operators recommend the jerk chicken and jerk pork. They have some great lunch specials, like $5.99 chicken and rice, their service is kind and quick, and their sauces are incredible!
2) Brar's Grand
Brar's is located in an industrial area on Advance, serving up generous portions of Indian food both a la carte and buffet-style. Boasting modern decor in a well-lit, large space, this casual and comfortable restaurant boasts some good, vegetarian Indian food. It gets quite packed with families here, especially on weekends, and they've got almost every kind of Indian food you can think of! From street snacks like classic samosas, bhel puri, and pakoras, to meals like channa bhatura and biryani, and curries and subjis like aloo gobhi and shahi paneer. Let's not forget about the wide variety of delicious sweets here, from ras malai to gulab jamun. Their buffet is easy to navigate and the staff is quite helpful, and the wide variety of options makes it easy for everyone to find something they like. Brar's sits at a reasonable price of about $25 for their buffet on a Saturday or a Sunday night. On weekdays that drops to $15 for lunch. If you're looking for some classic Indian dishes, often on the spicy side, head to Brar, and be sure to try their samosas and their ras malai - hands down some of the best in Brampton!
In a plaza near Bovaird and Torbram, Bakers is a little hidden, but it's well worth the adventure! From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Baker's serves up jerk chicken, fry chicken, or barbecue chicken with your choice of white rice or rice and peas and a can of pop for an impressive price of just $4.99. And have you heard of their Tuesday special? You're about to: Baker's has a special on Tuesdays where you can get a chicken dinner with your choice of rice...for just $3! It's unreal. Below, the take-out container might look small, but it is mighty. Baker's is high on quality and low on price, so it only makes sense that it's typically a crowded spot on a Friday or Saturday night, as this Caribbean take-out joint is in high demand in Brampton. You can also grab a Jamaican patty for just $1.25, porridge for $4, or even 10 wings and three festival (Jamaican fried dough) for $9. This place is a hit for cheap Caribbean eats, jerk chicken, and much more!
