Louisiana Seafood and Steakhouse has the best ribs hands down! They were the tangy, saucy and tender experience I was waiting for. The meat from their Bourbon Street back ribs fell right off the bone and their bourbon sauce makes licking your fingers totally acceptable. The high quality was evident in the meat. In terms of sides, there's three varieties of potatoes, french fries, roasted and mashed, to choose from and coleslaw that accompany the ribs. The fries were average and the coleslaw wasn't a great accompaniment. Luckily it was all about the ribs that night that’s what won me over. There's also the option to order wings and ribs for the same price as a full rack.
At Hurontario Street and Steeles Avenue, Anjappar Chettinad is a great South Indian spot with a buffet, a regular a-la-carte menu including dosas. This place has a fantastic buffet on the weekends that is rather busy in the AM / early lunch hour. They've even got all your dosa classics like masala dosa, vada and amazing house-made chutney. The buffet ranges from a reasonable $10.99 for weekend mornings to $12.99 for a weekday lunch and $14.99 in the evening. Their dosas come with two chutneys, tomato and coconut, and a good serving size of sambhar, perfect in proportion with the size of the dosa. All of their chutneys and their sambhar were packed with flavour. They might have a variety of South Indian food, but their dosas are a highlight on their menu.
If you want a great artisan sandwich (especially a loaded veal one with all the fixings), this is the place to go. Located just around the corner from Williams Parkway and Torbram, That Italian Place is a very busy spot with an authentic Italian feel. A word of caution when you visit: order early or have time to spare. This absolute gem of a restaurant appeared on The Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here in 2013 and for good reason--every item on the menu looks and tastes authentically delicious. If you’re in the mood for a hearty veal sandwich with all the toppings, you truly shouldn’t look anywhere else. The veal is tender, the mushrooms are filling and flavourful and the hot peppers add a certain wow factor that makes the sandwich complete. If you’re looking to grab lunch, this is the ideal spot.
As far as comfort food goes, Radica’s Hot and Spicy is definitely a hotspot. It’s a little hard to find since it’s tucked away right at Queen and Rutherford, but once you get in there, it’s hard not to fall in love with the place. The first thing that both the staff members working at the counter suggest is the doubles along with boneless goat roti. They were able to bring the food out in an impressively short amount of time. So as far as service goes, the staff at Radica’s did a great job but it is worth noting that their food spoke volumes for itself. Served hot and with the suitable amount of spice upon request, the food instantly warms you up on the inside, which is great.
From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don’t even need to leave your house. “We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood,” says the resto. All of their meat and produce is sourced from Ontario, so you can be glad to know you’re eating local.
