At Hurontario Street and Steeles Avenue, Anjappar Chettinad is a great South Indian spot with a buffet, a regular a-la-carte menu including dosas. This place has a fantastic buffet on the weekends that is rather busy in the AM / early lunch hour. They've even got all your dosa classics like masala dosa, vada and amazing house-made chutney. The buffet ranges from a reasonable $10.99 for weekend mornings to $12.99 for a weekday lunch and $14.99 in the evening. Their dosas come with two chutneys, tomato and coconut, and a good serving size of sambhar, perfect in proportion with the size of the dosa. All of their chutneys and their sambhar were packed with flavour. They might have a variety of South Indian food, but their dosas are a highlight on their menu.
A golf club patio, NINE18 is the restaurant at Turnberry Golf Club, located at Bovaird and Southlake across the street from Lowe's. NINE18's patio boasts an incredible view of their golf course and the houses and skyline beyond. Moreover, their patio is huge, and we might even go so far as to say it's the largest in Brampton. There is plenty of space for large or small groups, and you can get cozy in their sheltered area or be in the open area to absorb as much Vitamin D as possible. There's usually a good buzz of conversation happening, which makes this patio good for brunch, a casual drink, or evening appetizers, with scenic green space to boot. You will be surprised that a space like this exists in Brampton, and fair warning, their patio may become your new favourite hangout spot!
3. La Cakery
La Cakery is every sweet tooth’s slice of heaven. With a pastry case full of cookies, cannoli and custard tarts, it was hard to focus my attention on the cupcakes. But I did, and I am sure glad I did! Choosing between cupcakes topped with strawberries, sprinkles, and cookies was tough, but I settled on a classic red velvet one. I opted to eat this cupcake like a sandwich because I wanted to get the cream cheese to cake ratio as perfect as possible. The cake itself was fluffy and light, but my favourite part was the rich cream cheese frosting. Top that with the extremely patient staff as I asked a few times for recommendations, this is definitely a spot worth checking out.
2. J. Red & Co
Definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main is one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because he has appeared on such TVshows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Denis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. What's better than going out on a date and experimenting with a new style of food you have never tried before? You can try things like smoked cheddar mac 'n cheese, egg rolls and crispy fried cauliflower ‘wings.’ Our favourite is the Bob and Doug burger. This place is featured in our cover photo.
As far as comfort food goes, Radica’s Hot and Spicy is definitely a hotspot. It’s a little hard to find since it’s tucked away right at Queen and Rutherford, but once you get in there, it’s hard not to fall in love with the place. The first thing that both the staff members working at the counter suggest is the doubles along with boneless goat roti. They're able to bring the food out in an impressively short amount of time. So as far as service goes, the staff at Radica’s did a great job but it is worth noting that their food spoke volumes for itself. Served hot and with the suitable amount of spice upon request, the food instantly warms you up on the inside, which is great.
