5) Wally's on Steeles

On Steeles and Dixie, you might’ve driven past Wally’s a few times but not given it much of a second look. It might look like a truck stop from the outside, but Wally’s has a cozy interior, a great, varied menu with options for the kids, all day breakfast, and some of the best burgers in the city. Their kids menu includes chicken strips, pasta in alfredo sauce, and grilled cheese, plus souvlaki, deli sandwiches, and pasta and steak entrees for the adults.

4) Radica's Hot and Spicy

As far as comfort food goes, Radica's Hot and Spicy is definitely my new go-to spot (and featured in our cover photo!). It's a little hard to find since it's tucked away right at Queen and Rutherford, but once you get in there, it's hard not to fall in love with the place. I went in knowing I was going to have to try their doubles and that was the first thing that both the staff members working at the counter suggested to me along with boneless goat roti. Considering the busy rush of people the restaurant had during the lunch hour that I visited, they were able to bring the food out in an impressively short amount of time. So as far as service goes, the staff at Radica's did a great job but it is worth noting that their food spoke volumes for itself. Served hot and with the suitable amount of spice upon request, the food instantly warmed me up on the inside, which was nice (especially considering how cold it was outside). It also left me feeling like I needed to jump right into my bed for a nap, all the trimmings for the perfect comfort meal.

3) Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion Cuisine

Spicy Island Jerk Caribbean Fusion set up shop in the downtown core early in March month and is satisfying the bustling downtown crowd with a range of comforting Caribbean classics, including jerk pork, fried chicken, curry goat, oxtail, stew fish, chicken soup and more. Centrally located on Main Street, the resto is easily accessible for workers looking to grab a quick lunch or visitors hoping to enjoy a dinner that's on the hotter side. As for the resto's signature dish, operators recommend the jerk chicken and jerk pork.

2) Stacy Lee's Family Restaurant

Stacey Lee’s may be tiny, but it is mighty! This cozy, understated nook at Queen and McLaughlin is one of the most legendary restaurants in Brampton. Stacey Lee’s thrives by serving up a hearty breakfast (be sure to ask for their shredded hash browns), and you’ll definitely leave full and happy. They boast delicious all-day breakfast - pancakes for dinner might be fun for the kids - plus a senior’s menu for gram and gramps, and comfort food options for the parents like hot sandwiches, steak, and chicken pot pie.

1) Mayura

Acclaimed toque Ranveer Brar, an executive chef and judge on MasterChef India, just opened Mayura by Chef Ranveer Brar, his first five-star restaurant in Brampton. Brar, who is actually India’s youngest executive chef, has already opened over 20 restaurants worldwide, including the well-known Banq Restaurant in Boston. Since Brar has more than earned his stripes in kitchens around the world, it’s exciting to see him set up shop in a diverse GTA city with an evolving restaurant scene. Mayura offers ambiance and a menu that includes both traditional Indian and fusion fare. The resto also adapts the menu to feature specially created recipes to celebrate traditional Indian festivals.
