Here's a pleasant and wide variety of flavourful food for the vegetarian in you (no meat here). Brars is unique because it also has a bakery. So as soon as you step inside the restaurant there is nothing but food. The sweets look amazing and it kind of makes you want to skip the main course altogether. But don't do that. Brars has a wonderful variety of Indian food that's healthy and that's also comforting. You can't turn away when you see a grand, circular hot plate with curried chickpeas surrounded by samosas. And there is everything you could want when you're craving Indian food, whether you grew up on it or are new to it. If you have room for dessert the sweets are also almost exclusively cultural except for the ice cream. This is a great place to experiment eating Indian food. However, don't be afraid to ask what is available because the food descriptions on the glass are a little difficult to read.
4) J.Red & Co
Definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main is one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TV shows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. What’s better than going out on a date and experimenting with a new style of food you have never tried before? You can try things like smoked cheddar mac ‘n cheese, egg rolls and crispy fried cauliflower 'wings.' J.Red is featured in our cover photo!
3) Thai Pepper
Hands down, Thai Pepper has the best quality Thai food in Brampton. I was super impressed with the quality, quantity and cost; what more could you ask for? Located not too far from Sandalwood and Hurontario, Thai Pepper’s meagre decor in its unassuming plaza is completely contrary to the amazing cuisine found within. The menu offered several different choices, classics and unique specialties. Fortunately, the affordable prices made it easy for me to not feel too bad about indulging in a few items. My personal favourite was the ever classic shrimp tom yum soup, which boasted the perfect amount of spice and came with huge, good quality prawns. I also thoroughly enjoyed the basil fried rice. Considering that I tasted but a morsel of the wide selection Thai Pepper has to offer, I will soon visit again. Be warned, if you are in a rush, Thai Pepper may not be the best option for you; if you are looking to eat a delicious meal and spend time relaxing with a friend, you’ve come to the right place.
2) Man O’Salwa
This place has some seriously delicious shawarmas, pizzas, and burgers, made with flavour and care. It’s probably not on your radar because, first, it opened about two months ago, and second, it’s a hole in the wall in a plaza on Kennedy that’s not facing the main road. You might drive past the plaza initially, and even when you’re in the plaza, you might take a few minutes to realize you’re in the right place. The key is that you’re in the plaza with the blue roof! I really appreciated this place for a few reasons - the owner is kind, they take a little extra time and care to grill their meat and dress their shawarma, their pita was grilled well, their sauces and meat are flavourful, and they add a good quantity of veggies. You can also choose if you want a larger pita or a smaller one, depending on how hungry you are!
With a stunning interior and delicious Italian fare, Antica Osteria has made a few of our top fives and rightfully so. When you think of Italian restaurants in Brampton, it might not even be the first that comes to mind, solely because you didn’t know it existed. This sophisticated restaurant is located in a plaza on the outskirts of Brampton at Mayfield and Hurontario, and it might take a few drives around the plaza to notice it, as it’s tucked into a corner nowhere near the dentist or the Caribbean place on the other side of the strip. The resto’s website calls attention to the fact that the establishment occupies “one of the most prestigious indoor spaces in Snelgrove” and the enriching ambiance is apparent as soon as you walk in the door. Antica Osteria boasts a warm, earthy interior, and a wine bar, and it’s deal for a special occasion. With regards to the menu, it doesn’t disappoint, offering such classics as Gnocchi con Pera e Gorgonzola, Penne alla Vodka, lamb and more. If you want to be wowed, try the homemade gnocchi or any of the tender, succulent veal dishes available on the menu.
