5) La Capannina

La Capannina is a family-run gem that's been operating since the 80s and has more than stood the test of time. The downtown Brampton resto, tucked away on George Street North, offers charming, vintage appeal and a classic menu full of such delicious Italian mainstays as spaghetti bolognese, homemade gnocchi, manicotti and veal parmigiana. It also boasts a few unique offerings, such as oysters rockefeller, mushroom caps stuffed with lobster, shrimps, scallops and hollandaise sauce and a rotating list of decadent specials (the mixed meat and cheese board was a sweet surprise and came with a tender brie and flavourful capicola). The service is informative and attentive and the homemade gnocchi is fall-apart tender, not to mention generously portioned. The manicotti is also incredibly fresh, allowing the diner to taste each ingredient. There's a reason this resto has lasted as long as it has and that reason is fresh, memorable food served by friendly, helpful staff in an inviting atmosphere.

4) Sushi House

Who says sushi can’t be romantic? Located just north on Main in the heart of downtown Brampton is a Japanese restaurant that has been around for eight years and looks just as good now as it did when it first opened. Sushi house is very inviting, with booths on one side and private dining rooms on the other. This place is great for a date, as the booths offer an intimate setting with ample privacy. As far as the menu goes, the food is on point and your date will be satisfied--especially with the complimentary crunchy noodle soup that kicks off every meal!

3) J. Red & Co.

Definitely one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main is one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because he has appeared on such TV shows as Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. What’s better than going out on a date and experimenting with a new style of food you have never tried before? You can try things like smoked cheddar mac ‘n cheese, egg rolls and crispy fried cauliflower 'wings.' Our favourite is the Bob and Doug burger.

2) Paranthe Wali Gali

A new, unique Indian restaurant boasting traditional flavours and a specialty opened recently in Brampton, and readers are a-buzz. It’s called Paranthe Wali Gali - which means “the lane of parantha-makers” - and it’s located at Clarence and Kennedy. A parantha is an Indian flatbread that’s popular in different styles in South Asian countries. The flatbread is typically flaky and can be stuffed with different ingredients. Paranthe Wali Gali serves a whopping almost 60 different kinds of paranthe (plural of parantha), including butter chicken, beet root, and chicken biryani. Some of the paranthe are inspired by different South Asian regions, like Chennai (parantha with potatoes and southern-flavoured herbs) and Kashmir (parantha with kidney beans and Indian herbs).

1) Carve on Lot 5

Located at 15 Main Street North, this resto boasts a great location and actually sits in a historical building (they had to renovate the space before opening). The restaurant boasts a main floor bar and lounge, a second floor meeting and dining room and the aforementioned rooftop patio (which features a bar). The food offerings are diverse (which is ideal in a city as multicultural as Brampton) and affordable and the resto also boasts a simple wine list, good quality spirits and a mix of local and international beers. We highlight recommend the fries, the fish tacos, the mac and cheese, and...well, pretty much anything on their menu!
