If you thought the name of this place was quirky, wait until you step inside! The Khana Sutra is a spacious Queen Street East restaurant that boasts an expansive, delicious menu, with both traditional items and traditional items with a Western spin, playful decor and relaxing live music that augments a pleasant meal, and it can be reminiscent of an Indian banquet hall party, which gives it all a fun vibe. The service is friendly and attentive and the food is a cut above typical Indian fare. If you’re looking to share a meal, try the lime prawn pakoras and the Bharwaan Tandoori mushroom caps. If you want to be wow’d, order the Shehnai Ghosht entree (lamb roasted with cardamom and a herb-flavoured sauce) with some moist garlic naan. You won’t be disappointed--especially if you top the meal off with some tasty Canadian wine.
This spot, while not AYCE, provides amazing sushi at a reasonable price. The food is fantastic and could easily compete with any other Peel Region sushi joint for the title of best Japanese in town. Tracing its roots to humble beginnings in the infamous Shopper's World, this spot sits up top in the same plaza as the crowned king (Queen) of Shawarma at Hurontario and Bovaird. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. Quality over quantity is sometimes key.
The Crown and Lion feels like one of those places you can see yourself coming back to any night of the week. The Crown and Lion has been a favorite for many Bramptonians because of the friendly and inviting atmosphere. Nearing Brampton's border at Financial and Steeles, this pub doesn't fall in line with the usual dark toned aesthetic that most pubs seem to have. With the Crown and Lion, right when you walk in you'll quickly notice how well-lit the entire joint is and the bright colour scheme will also grab your attention. They have a lot of great theme nights, including Monday nights for wings and Wednesday nights for pub trivia. My personal favourite and main recommendation is their wings, but if you're looking to grab something to share with friends, I also suggest trying their spinach and artichoke dip or the wings. Either way, you'll leave knowing you had great food in a great place.
Quick service, large portions, and possibly the best hot sauce on this list - Portas Do Mar took Martin's BBQ's place in a plaza on Main St., and while we miss Martin's, Portas Do Mar is a pretty awesome spot itself. At this Portuguese bar and grill, you get a choice of white or dark meat, plus rice and potatoes, for a steeper price of $12 compared to other spots on this list, but the food is delicious. The hot sauce is tangy and has an incredible kick to it, so make sure you pour that stuff over everything, the potatoes have a thin outer layer that just melts when you pop them in our mouth, and the rice have a unique lemon flavour to them. As for the chicken, the skin is flavourful and and the meat is tender. The best part? Service here is very quick, especially for take-out. You could be in and out in well under 10 minutes.
From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don't even need to leave your house. "We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood," says the resto. All of their meat and produce is sourced from Ontario, so you can be glad to know you're eating local, and everything is indulgent and set for a cheat meal at this Maritime Ontario Blvd. hotspot for meat and more. With a chill vibe, kind and helpful staff, and delicious food, Food Fight has won our foodie hearts.
