5. Grainery Bakery & Deli

Here's the deal - I love bread, and that makes the Grainery near Kennedy and Steeles my own little slice of heaven. Now that that's out of the way, the Grainery has an abundance of delicious soup offerings, with different, fresh soups daily! In total, the Grainery boasts a whopping 15 different soups, stews, and chilis throughout the week, including beef stew, broccoli and cheese, Italian wedding, tomato bisque, minestrone, chicken noodle, and even chicken gumbo - shall I go on? You can choose your size, small, medium, or large, for well under $5, except for their large stew which rings in at $5.39. All of their options are to-go, and shown below is their delicious chicken gumbo, which you can get on Thursdays. The gumbo has chicken, roce, celery, red pepper, onion, and even jalapeno - this one is for those who have a spice tolerance! As many options as they have and as delicious and cheap as their soup is, however, their chicken gumbo could have used way more chicken in it. The veggies and broth were done so, so right, though, and the staff is always helpful and kind.

4. Thai Pepper

Hands down, Thai Pepper has the best quality Thai food in Brampton. I was super impressed with the quality, quantity and cost; what more could you ask for? Located not too far from Sandalwood and Hurontario, Thai Pepper’s meagre decor in its unassuming plaza is completely contrary to the amazing cuisine found within. The menu offered several different choices, classics and unique specialties. Fortunately, the affordable prices made it easy for me to not feel too bad about indulging in a few items. My personal favourite was the ever classic shrimp tom yum soup, which boasted the perfect amount of spice and came with huge, good quality prawns. I also thoroughly enjoyed the basil fried rice. Considering that I tasted but a morsel of the wide selection Thai Pepper has to offer, I will soon visit again. Be warned, if you are in a rush, Thai Pepper may not be the best option for you; if you are looking to eat a delicious meal and spend time relaxing with a friend, you’ve come to the right place.

3. La Cakery

La Cakery is every sweet tooth’s slice of heaven. With a pastry case full of cookies, cannoli and custard tarts, it was hard to focus my attention on the cupcakes. But I did, and I am sure glad I did! Choosing between cupcakes topped with strawberries, sprinkles, and cookies was tough, but I settled on a classic red velvet one. I opted to eat this cupcake as a sandwich, because I wanted to get the cream cheese to cake ratio as perfect as possible. The cake itself was fluffy and light, but my favourite part was the rich cream cheese frosting. Top that with the extremely patient staff as I asked a few times for recommendations, this is definitely a spot worth checking out.

2. Spoonful

This ranks as the most trendy looking buffets. The purple and yellow decor is playful and makes it more exciting to eat. Eating here is an experience all on its own. There's a whole assortment of Asian foods like sushi, noodles, spring rolls, meats and the best station ever: make your own pad Thai. The food arrangement gets even cooler at dessert with their chocolate fountain, rows upon rows of sweets and a Wheel of Fortune looking rotator of ice cream. Have fun eating here and you can check their website for birthday specials that don’t just apply to the exact day of your birth.

What they are known for: Pad Thai station

Price: $26.99 weeknight - $32.99 weekends

1. Jake’s Boathouse

Smoked meat and a movie? Located near Cineplex Odeon Orion Gate Cinemas off Steeles and Highway 410, this large yet slightly hidden bar and restaurant has a Montreal smoked meat sandwich that may surprise you. It may not be the first thing you notice on the menu, but when it gets to your table the excitement will start to build. The meat in this sandwich doesn’t melt in your mouth like some of the other options on this list, but the cheese is a nice touch and the flavour of the meat is quite good. This sandwich is also served with a side to help satisfy your appetite. With great service to match, Jake’s Boathouse is one of the few places in Brampton where you can find a decent smoked meat sandwich.
