At Hurontario Street and Steeles Avenue, Anjappar Chettinad is a great South Indian spot with a buffet, a regular a-la-carte menu including dosas. This place has a fantastic buffet on the weekends that is rather busy in the AM / early lunch hour. They’ve even got all your dosa classics like masala dosa, vada and amazing house-made chutney. The buffet ranges from a reasonable $10.99 for weekend mornings to $12.99 for a weekday lunch and $14.99 in the evening. Their dosas come with two chutneys, tomato and coconut, and a good serving size of sambhar, perfect in proportion with the size of the dosa. All of their chutneys and their sambhar were packed with flavour. They might have a variety of South Indian food, but their dosas are a highlight on their menu.
The Sul Irmaos Smokehouse is located in the heart of downtown Brampton and specializes in Portuguese southern fusion cuisine. The restaurant is known for its smoked meat, which is smoked (low and slow) and it was even featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. Must eat dishes include the beef eater (southern slow smoked brisket, deep fried okra and shrimp and collard greens, served with Creole mustard, house gravy and Caesar dressing) and the pulled pork and Beanasaurus (southern slow smoked pulled pork, homemade mama's chill, fresh cut creamy coleslaw and fried mac and cheese bites).
Here’s a pleasant and wide variety of flavourful food for the vegetarian in you (no meat here). Brars is unique because it also has a bakery. So as soon as you step inside the restaurant there is nothing but food. The sweets look amazing and it kind of makes you want to skip the main course altogether. But don’t do that. Brars has a wonderful variety of Indian food that’s healthy and that’s also comforting. You can’t turn away when you see a grand, circular hot plate with curried chickpeas surrounded by samosas. And there is everything you could want when you’re craving Indian food, whether you grew up on it or are new to it. If you have room for dessert the sweets are also almost exclusively cultural except for the ice cream. This is a great place to experiment eating Indian food. However, don’t be afraid to ask what is available because the food descriptions on the glass are a little difficult to read.
Delight Pho has officially opened at Chinguacousy Road and Dusk Drive with modern decor and ambiance, and plenty of food options on the menu. Seemingly a clever play on “delightful,” Delight Pho serves (of course) various kinds of pho, a Vietnamese rice noodle soup usually made with with beef, or, as I like to think of it, a steaming bowl of comfort. Along with pho, the quaint resto serves pad thai, smoothies, spring rolls, and fried rice at reasonable prices. For pho, it's $8.50 for a small bowl, and just a dollar more for a large.
From pork spare ribs and beef brisket, to homemade sausages and fried chicken, to spicy mac and cheese and poutine, the brand new casual resto has some indulgent menu items all set for customers. They boast dine-in, take-out, and delivery, so if you want to try their food, you don't even need to leave your house. "We smoke our meat all night over whole chunks of naturally procured wood," says the resto. All of their meat and produce is sourced from Ontario, so you can be glad to know you're eating local.
