Yes, it’s winter. And yes, that already implies snow and cold galore. But this winter has been especially snowy and cold in Brampton, and now, it’s expected to stay that way deep into March!

According to The Weather Network, despite a brief break in frigid -20 C temperatures around mid-February, the cold is expected to continue through February and into March.

“As we head towards mid-February the pattern that has been supplying central Canada with arctic air will temporarily break down,” said meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham in a recent statement. “As a result, our temperatures should be more stable near seasonal.”

But that doesn’t mean winter is over. In fact, more winter could be coming.

“We can already see a couple of trends in the global pattern that signal a return to a colder pattern before the end of February and likely continuing deep into March,” said Gillham.

This week alone, The Weather Network has predicted what might be the biggest snow storm of the year on Wednesday.

“The exact track is still uncertain, but confidence is increasing that the northern edge of the system will come through the Golden Horseshoe bringing widespread snow totals of 5 to 10 cm,” said Gillham.

Further, an active storm track is expected to persist until this weekend, with a threat of ice and rain, according to Gillham.

It looks like we won’t be having an early spring, regardless of what any of the groundhogs had to say about it.

Time to hibernate!
