Two arrested and firearms seized after shooting in Brampton

A recent shooting in Brampton has led to two arrests.

At 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, police say a man and woman walked into English Street Park where a shooting occurred.

At 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, police say a man and woman walked into English Street Park where a shooting occurred.

“While in the park a firearm was discharged, the pair then left the park in a vehicle,” police say.

Officers identified the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop, and arrested both occupants. A search warrant was executed at the male suspect’s residence and the following items were reportedly located and seized:

  • 45 Caliber Pistol
  • 40 Caliber Pistol
  • AR-15 Rifle
  • Ammunition: 50 handgun rounds, 200 rifle rounds, 11 shotgun rounds, 11 firearm magazines
  • $3000 in drugs

30 year old Brampton man Lionel Willie and 24 year old Brampton woman Shamas Berantuo are facing the following charges:

  • Discharge Firearm in Reckless Manner
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (three counts)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon (eight counts)
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (three counts)

Willie is also charged with five counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine.

They were both held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 2, 2020.
