Brampton natives Alessia Cara and Jessie Reyez have both had big years. Now, both Cara and Reyez have been nominated for the 2018 JUNO Awards in multiple categories!

At just 21 years old, Cara has been nominated for JUNO Fan Choice and Single of the Year for “How Far I’ll Go.”

Cara recently won her first Grammy for Best New Artist. She’s the first Canadian artist to win in the prestigious category, beating out such previous nominees as Drake and Justin Bieber, and she was the only woman to win a televised award at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

As for Reyez, the 26-year-old has been nominated for JUNO Fan Choice (up against Cara), Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for Kiddo. Her short film Gatekeeper is also up for Video of the Year. She’s one of the leading nominees this season, alongside big names including the late Gord Downie and the band Arcade Fire.

Reyez performed on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon a few months ago, which is no small feat! She performed her hit single Figures on the world’s longest running talk show — The Tonight Show has been on air since 1954. She took home two iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards in 2017, one for Best New Canadian Artist and one for Fan Fave Video for “Shutter Island.”

The JUNO Awards are happening on Sunday, March 25, 2018.

Let’s send good vibes to both of these strong female artists from Brampton!
