A 20 year old Brampton man has been charged with robbery and firearm related offences after an attempted puppy theft.

On Friday, December 20, police say the victim arranged to meet with the suspect through a buy-and-sell website to sell him a puppy.

The meet up took place in the area of Skylar Circle, near the intersection of Cottrelle and The Gore Road.

When the victim handed the suspect the puppy, the suspect allegedly refused to pay, pointed a gun at the victim, and fled on foot.

“As the suspect fled with the puppy he accidentally shot himself in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground,” police say.

The victim contacted the police at 7:31 p.m. Officers located the suspect shortly after and he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Colt .45 firearm was recovered by police and Tarzan, the nine week old purebred American Bulldog, was returned unharmed.
