Brampton’s upcoming municipal election is shaping up to be a big one

A week ago today, the Region of Peel’s political scene was thrown into upheaval when Patrick Brown, the former PC candidate who was favoured to win Peel’s regional chair position, registered to run for mayor of Brampton. The somewhat unexpected move came after Premier Doug Ford suddenly announced that his government would be cancelling the regional chair elections in Peel, York, Niagara and Muskoka.

Now, incumbent Mayor Linda Jeffrey will be facing off against Brown, current City Councillor John Sprovieri and a host of other challengers in the upcoming Oct. 22 election.

We recently sat down with Jeffrey to talk about issues affecting Brampton, including growth, affordable housing, healthcare and the hospital crisis, crime, the LRT, the upcoming university and more.
