Some intriguing news about a particular downtown Brampton building has come to light!

The building at 21 Nelson Street West, across the street from the Downtown Bus Terminal and at the corner of George Street and Nelson Street has been approved for purchase, according to a recent Brampton City Council meeting.

So, it seems that new tenants – or a new tenant – is coming to the space.

It’s true, a budget amendement has been approved for “a new capital project be established in the amount of $6,400,000 (plus land transfer taxes, ancillary costs and taxes, if applicable)” according to City Council.

A whopping $6.4 million deal is in the works here between the City of Brampton and Pepe Lepew Corp, transferred from Reserve 12, Land Proceeds, if you were curious as to where the money is coming from.

Currently, the site houses tax preparation and filing company H&R Block, petit resto Mocha Cafe, career centre Skills for Change, and Golden Stool Restaurant and Lounge, to name a few businesses.

The purchase does have yet to close, according to the City. Brampton’s 2018 operating budget will indeed reflect this purchase.

What will become of the space is yet unconfirmed to the public.

We can, however, speculate!

Perhaps the space will be home to a university building – a site has not been confirmed for Brampton’s up-and-coming university, after all. Or, maybe a new celebrity chef is set to take over the space and give us another restaurant gem!

What do you think would be a good fit for the space?
