Do you hear something bubbling? That’s Brampton’s vibrant arts and culture scene, and it’s about to make a splash over the next decade.

Do you hear something bubbling? That’s Brampton’s vibrant arts and culture scene, and it’s about to make a splash over the next decade.

The Culture Master Plan is set for completion in June 2018, and it aims to lay out how local cultural services and investments are delivered over the next ten years! The City is moving forward on the plan with two international leaders in culture and consulting.

The world’s largest cultural professional practice, Lord Cultural Resources, and leading international consulting firm Nordicity are the team that will lead research and community engagement, and a community-based Steering Committee who will provide expertise, represent diverse interests and oversee the plan’s development.

“Brampton is a young and diverse city full of talent, passion, and creativity. A new vision for culture will build on the energy and achievements of our creative community today, and create a blueprint to drive culture in Brampton for the next 10 years and beyond,” said Mayor Linda Jeffrey.

So, who exactly are these two organizations that are set to support this major upgrade of how arts and culture are supported in Brampton?

Lord Cultural Resources – you know, the world’s largest cultural professional practice as mentioned above – has helped create iconic cultural destinations in a whopping 460 cities, in 57 countries, on six continents. They’re all about building cultural capital and valuing local cultural diversity, and are headquartered in Toronto.

Nordicity will play a supportive role in the task. They’re an international consulting firm that focuses on business strategy and economic analysis for arts, culture, and heritage, and holds a key office in Toronto, as well.

“A vibrant arts and culture scene is a key component of any great city. It attracts residents, businesses, investment and tourism. By creating a Culture Master Plan for Brampton, we are pro-actively planning for and investing in the quality of our arts and culture scene, and in turn, enhancing its place value and economic potential,” said Brampton’s director, economic development and culture, Bob Darling.

Clearly, Brampton isn’t just growing on the population front (hello, ninth largest city in Canada with almost 600,000 people and growing)!

A lot of how the Culture Master Plan will develop includes research throughout the fall and engagement with Brampton residents, artists, cultural organizations, civic leaders, visitors and all stakeholders in early 2018.

Our arts and culture scene is already vibrant, and with the Culture Master Plan, hopefully, local artists will receive more attention and resources to flourish in Flower City.
