Do you have some junk to get rid of that might not be a good fit for your garbage or recycling bin?

If so, you are in luck–Waste Reduction Week is set to kick off in Brampton and Mississauga.

On the weeks of Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, you will be able to more easily get rid of old batteries and textiles (items that most people are, rightfully, hesitant to simply toss in the trash).

If you have some batteries to part with, you can put them out for curbside collection. The Region of Peel is asking residents with old batteries to place them in a clear, resealable bag. You can set the bag on your closed organics cart on your recycling day for collection.

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, you can collect your unwanted clothes, linens, towels and shoes and bring them to your closest Community Recycling Centre. The Region will take them for free, so bring as many items as you like. According to the Region, they will be reused and repurposed.

The Region also has something special in mind for teachers.

During waste reduction week, teachers are asked to post photos of their class’s waste reduction efforts and hashtag them #wrwPeel and mention @peelregion to win free transportation to the Peel recycling facility for a tour.
