Earlier today, Canada Post took to Twitter to announce that the ongoing inclement weather conditions are impeding mail delivery in the GTA.

“While every effort is being made to deliver the mail, some customers may not receive mail today. Delivery will resume once it’s safe to do so,” Canada Post said.

On Feb. 6, Canada Post announced that it was suspending delivery operations in the GTA entirely because of the icy conditions, adding that regular delivery would resume once conditions improved.

The icy conditions that have plagued Brampton for the last day are putting mail carriers at risk, Canada Post says.

While Canada Post acknowledges that winter is part and parcel of life in Canada, it is reminding people to do their part to keep their properties clear of ice and snow to prevent mail carriers from slipping and falling.

Canada Post says slips, trips and falls account for about half of its staffs’ injuries every year.

“These injuries have real impacts on our employees and their families: concussions, broken bones, mental anguish, poorer quality of life – they’re all potential consequences of a slip, trip or fall,” Canada Post said, adding that over 100 employees were injured after falling in January alone.

It says some workers suffered broken and dislocated bones.

Canada Post is asking residents to clear snow and ice from their driveways, walkways, stairs and around their mailbox, use ice melter, de-icing salt or traction sand and ensure that items like extension cords, lights or decorations are not obstructing a clear and safe path to their mailbox.
